Welcome To The All New British South Park - The Latest Hard-Hitting
News Latest News - 15th July 1999 - 20:34 Hours South Park for Nintendo 64 was a resounding success for Acclaim, so it comes as no surprise that the company has deployed its development forces to make more incarnations of the franchise. Two new titles bearing the South Park brand will hit Nintendo 64 later this year in the form of Chef's Luv Shack, a multiplayer-focused trivia game with foul language, and South Park Rally, a kart racer of sorts with mucho profanities. Are we beginning to see a trend here? Actually, the good news is that South Park Rally is indeed much more than karts and beeped out cuss-words. IGN64 played the PC version of the title at E3 today and it features an over-the-top, but surprisingly polished physics engine, stylized high-resolution visuals and a remarkably smooth framerate. In fact, supposing Acclaim-Austin can transfer all of the above over to Nintendo 64 without spearing framerates, well, fad or no fad, South Park Rally may indeed give Mario and friends a good run for their money. Of course, South Park Rally features nearly all of the characters from the cartoon series including the likes of a police tricycle-riding Cartman and a Wagon-equipped Chef. But the zaniness doesn't stop there. Oh no, not by a long-shot. The game casts scores of famous South Park personalities, from Mr. Hankey to the vocally-challenged Ned. And best of all, each character flings out one-liners spoken by the two and only Matt Stone and Trey Parker themselves. Keeping with South Park tradition, the one-liners in the title are predictably profane, censor-beeped out just enough to keep the four-letter words recognizable. Each character will drive an appropriate car based on their personality: •Cartman (2 different cars): a jeep or on a police big wheel •Stan: red Lambourghini •Kyle: red Porsche •Kenny: go-cart •Officer Barbrady: police car •Ned: jeep •Scuzzlebutt: wheeled basket •Big Gay Al: Big Gay Love Bug •Chef: station wagon •Death: Hertzs •Mr. Garrison: Volkswagon Beetle •Starvin' Marvin': a wagon carrying a wheat sack •Mephisto: Delorian (that car from the Back to the Future) •Stan's Grandpa: rocket-powered wheelchair •Beelzebub: flame-painted hotrod •Jesus: a puffy little cloud Unfortunately, IGN64 could not actually hear the game's no-doubt hilarious one-liners over the maddening hum of the surrounding E3 crowd, but we've put together a brief list of what we think may be said in the title. |
